VF Corp., parent company of Vans, Reef and The North Face (to name a few) has just acquired upscale denim brand Rock & Republic‘s trademarks and associated intellectual property for $57 million.  Rock & Republic filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy nearly a year ago. The deal does not include R&R’s business operations or retail stores. More coverage at Transworld here and here.

This marks the first transaction for VF’s Licensed Brands group, which was formed in July of 2009. VF says details related to licensing plans for the brand will be provided in the near future.
