Just in time for March Madness, the Brooklyn footwear start-up ‘LEBRON JORDAN’ filed suit on Monday in the Eastern District of New York seeking $150 million from Nike, Converse, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Live Nation and Jump DC. Erik Seimer and Martin Schwimmer both have good coverage of the case. According to Lebron Jordan CEO, Aaron Fraser, there is no relation whatsoever between the company’s name and LeBron James or Michael Jordan. Rather, the company is named after Fraser’s two godsons: Lebron and Jordan. The complaint argues that Nike doesn’t have the right to trademark the words “Lebron” or “Jordan”. Is this the end of pro models? I doubt it.
